Isn't this lovely! The Alfred Tennyson in Belgravia was the perfect setting for a dinky little tasting of about twenty guests. British cheese and beers, and a bit of friendly cheese chat made a welcome wind-down for staff from an international telecoms firm after a gruelling day of meetings in London. Cheeses from Neal's Yard Dairy, ranging from a refreshingly delicate Perroche goat's on the left, a perfectly balanced Pitchfork Cheddar in the middle to a forthright Stichelton on the right there, with beers from The Kernel Brewery. Memorable matches were the Kernel's hoppy pils with the Camembert-analogue Tunworth - spritzy moussy goodness - super trad Pitchfork and pale ale - fruity hops and earthy cheese - and, as always, Stilchelton with India Export Porter, bringing that big creamy mouthfeel with chocolate and umami like a funkier version of a salted caramel. Beer and cheese really is magic.
